Wm. Brown & Co. recently designed, installed and commissioned the smoke control system for the joint AMA, Grosvenor and RBS development at Springside in Edinburgh.

The development in the Fountainbridge area of the capital is part of a larger venture of sustainable development, providing luxury housing and offices whilst regenerating the local green spaces, shops and other amenities.

Following close co-ordination with the developer and their design team,  Wm. Brown provided a multi-zone control system to operate AOV’s (Automatically Opening Vents) located on each floor, and roof vents at the head of each stairwell. The installation of smoke detection in each protected lobby ensures that any build up of smoke is efficiently dispersed, allowing residents to escape safely and provide clear access for the emergency services.

One of the challenges we faced was concealling so much cabling within the curtain wall section but with a bit of thought and a lot of work we managed it.
